04 / Life with animals

The small things you will want to remember.

Favourite walks, familiar habits and the first days in a new home.

An ordinary morning

The dog waiting by the door. The cat asleep in the same patch of sunlight. Some of the photographs we return to most often were taken on days when nothing much happened.

A few words can make the picture yours: the name of the walk, how long that toy lasted, or why the cat finally decided to sit beside you.

Looking back

A profile can become a record of life with an animal. The first photograph after adoption might sit beside a later one from a familiar walk. Changes that were difficult to notice day by day become easier to see.

There is no need to catch up on everything at once. Start with a photograph you like and add another when you want to.

Let the animal set the pace

A photograph can wait. If the animal moves away or needs a break, put the camera down. Everyday life gives you plenty of other chances.

You can share a picture without its location. That is useful when the place is private or when an exact location could disturb wildlife.
