06 / Shelters and rescue centres

A day at the shelter.

The animals, the people and the work that often happens out of sight.

Before the visitors arrive

Feeding, cleaning, preparing a space for a new arrival: much of a shelter’s day happens before anyone comes through the door. A few photographs can show people what that work involves.

A short introduction on your profile helps new readers understand where you work and which animals you care for.

Getting to know an animal

A portrait gives a reader a face to remember. A photograph from a walk or a favourite resting place can tell them a little more.

If you mention adoption, date the update and point readers to your shelter’s own contact details and process. The situation may have changed by the time someone finds an older post.

The people behind the work

You could follow one volunteer through part of their day, show how a space has been improved, or return to an animal you introduced a few weeks earlier.

Ask people before including them in a public photograph. Share the parts of the day your team is comfortable showing.

A profile for the shelter

Create an account, then a profile under the name people know your shelter by. It will have its own address and posts.

If you also share personal photographs, you can keep those on a separate profile under the same account. Check the selected profile before publishing.
